A breast reduction results in smaller, proportional, shapelier breasts. The areola, generally large in big breasts, is also made smaller. Liposuction of the sides of the breast (removes the side boob!) and anterior axillary fold (the part that pops out of the bra strap!) helps to frame your new improved breasts. Symptoms associated with large breasts including back, neck and shoulder pain, bra strap grooving are commonly alleviated. Difficulty exercising, back, shoulder and neck pain, finding and looking good in clothing are frequently major factors motivating patients to seek breast reductions. These are things that smaller breast sized women take for granted. From a personal perspective I am always grateful for the opportunity to be able to assist and empower women with this life changing surgery.
The supero-medial pedicle techniques of breast reduction preserves nipple sensation in the majority of cases. It should be remembered that with any breast surgery loss of nipple sensation is possible and this cannot be determined pre-operatively.

Scars on the breasts are inevitable however the advantages afforded by a breast reduction make this one of the most successful and rewarding procedures I perform.

In most large breast reductions a ‘wise-pattern’ breast reduction with supero-medial pedicle is used. For smaller reductions a vertical scar technique may be possible.

Whilst lactation is likely after a breast reduction the volume produced is usually inadequate and will necessitate supplementary bottle feeding.
