In Dr Geldenhuys opinion threads have been overused. This does not imply they do not have a role to play in facial rejuvenation but it is necessary to evaluate the cost-benefit ratio when considering threads – the correction is temporary and limited. As all patients have a ‘budget’ the question which needs to be posed is ‘what is the best I can do for my patient with the available budget’ – threads are not typically in the front of the queue.
Where facial shape and balance / volume are restored and there is residual facial sag which when corrected impact very positively on facial aesthetics, threads may be a good option. This opinion relates to the relative impact that the different features of ageing impart on the face as a whole.
